Everything has a company car, which was soon over, and cash in your pocket that goes to buy cheap beer and snacks near a convenient store. Nowhere to go and nothing left in the tank.
But writer-director Dan Rush, in his first feature film, you know you have something special with everything must go, based on Raymond Carver short story "Why not dance?" Because he took this story and cleverly stripped instilled a few additional details, keep a sense of what is little more than a short breathing space. It is still rare and quiet, a character study that does not have to go to the desperation of Leaving Las Vegas, a film that looks at all, not only through a decline in the star-his luck, but also through the relationships of these men are able to establish with women.
Halsey, provided that the observer and the seller recognizes a soul sister Samantha (Rebecca Hall), his new neighbor, a pregnant woman waiting for her husband provider to join his new home and life. Like Adam Sandler, apparently, it has the ability to exploit the comic vein that runs through drama and tragedy, and it leads us to believe in him more than ever Sandler.
Interestingly here is because of our recent recalls of some of his comic bits that makes us care about Halsey. In this sad sack of a man, trace infiltrate Ferrell, George W. Bush in the mix. It W. if it had not changed his life thanks to Laura and became governor of Texas or President of the United States. Imagine the Bush Jr. sat in his own lawn trying to get rid of all excess baggage to go along their daily lives.
No epiphanies important in this kind of life. Halsey does not stop drinking himself into oblivion or into the arms of his wife or any of Samantha and Delilah. It will not be governor or president, or even become a funny man Will Ferrell. However, there is more than a character whose actions played for laughs tribulations. Halsey is the next step in the evolution of this anonymous man in the history of Carver, the same as Rush discovered and Ferrell took a little longer and ended up in the hands and care.
Halsey is human, because - thanks to two and Ferrell character he plays - one realizes that all is not lost. Grade: A
