La Reina del Sur (La Reina del Sur) is a Spanish telenovela produced by the U.S. based television network Telemundo. Based on a novel by Spanish writer Arturo Perez-Reverte, the drama describes the rise of Teresa Mendoza, a young woman from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, which became the drug lord's most powerful in southern Spain.
With a budget of 10 million, La Reina del Sur was the most expensive telenovelas ever produced by Telemundo.
